rampworx haloween all nighter
gerbil reporting from the rampworx all nighter in aintree, liverpool.
and what a night!
first of all i arrived at the park to see a HUGE line of people waiting to go into the park, and my first thoughts where 'i want to go home'.
being a street lover, if theres one thing i cant stand its lots and lots of people when im trying to ride. i think though, this occasion was a one off.
without this many people, there would be no atmosphere to it. the amount of old friends i seen was amazing, and just about every rider i know from around these ways was there.
everyone got settled in, rode a bit, before the fun comps started. matty lambert on the microphone, a £50 not in his hand, and the jump box comp begins.
this was off the hook! seriously. we had irish jason phelan (failure bikes, snafu, orchid) doin big big 720's, superman seatgrabs, 360 whips, danger dave did a crazy barrel role... little harry main (FIRM, KHE, nike 6.0) did a flair-900 tap... nuts. halfway through it started getting a bit mad, with jay bean doin the biggest 'stem shags' ever. irish jay then took it upon himself to whip the jumpbox, backwards, to the flat bottom. amazing!
the box comp was eventually won by a little kid on a federal (leon perkins says his name was dean... but leons thick). the trick that got the £50 note was a superman seatgrab barspin, from a kid who looked about 14.
high air commenced, and was a showdown between little harry and sam ward (redline). harry main ended up taking it... after a change of ramp!
everyone carried on riding a little more until the high hop comp came along. leon perkins (diomandback, nike 6.0) won this, then irish jason decided he had another use for the hight bar (check the photo)
once this comp was done, i got old school jay screaming 'gerbil, bring your camera over here, sams flairing over the tombstone again!' to say i shit myself would be a bit of an understatement, as i was at rampworx the last time sam ward tried this... which left him off his bike for a few months. never good. but despite this, it was pulled, and id say it was one of the biggest flairs iv seen in person.
after this, the night pretty much consisted of ridin a bit, chillin with friends (old and new) and shooting a couple of photos... although mike and dylan at firm are goin to kill me when they read this, and realise that larry, bombhead and harry (all firm bike riders) where there, and i didnt take a single photo of any of them.
i went home at around 7.30... and there was still alot of people riding, i was truly tired, and ready for ym macdonalds breakfast.
heres the snaps.

What happened to Padded Cell?:
In lieu of recent misinformation and internet speculation, we would like to take this opportunity to clear the air on what happened between Odyssey and our former UK distributor, Padded Cell.
In September 2006, Padded Cell’s parent company, Cool Brands LTD, then Hi-Gear LTD, began to default on payments. In an attempt to help keep Padded Cell supplied, an exception was made to our customary “upfront” payment rule and Cool Brands was offered 60 day terms. As time moved on, Cool Brands continued to default on payments and a substantial six-figure US dollar debt began to build. In mid-2007, we expressed interest in looking for a second, non-exclusive, UK distributor, hoping that this would assist Cool Brands by relieving some of the financial pressures that they were dealing with. However, the option of allowing a second distributor was quickly denied by Cool Brands, who chose instead to close Padded Cell, using the return delivery of their existing Odyssey inventory to balance the ledger on the longstanding debt they had accumulated with us.
The Padded Cell employees were a passionate and dedicated team that had the misfortune of being stuck in the middle of all this, and it should be understood that they were not to blame for Cool Brands’ inability to make the required payments.
In the wake of this disbanding, the former Padded Cell employees have started Zeal Distribution, a company that is independently owned and operated by James Hitchcox. The Zeal team is highly dedicated and passionate about their work, and we're sure that everyone will be hearing a lot from them very soon. Please contact James, Aaron and Neil for more information on how your shop can carry products from Mankind, Superstar, Standard Byke Co, Sputnic, BSD, Alone and Manmade Clothing in the UK.
